My Initial Thoughts

It is tough to find a decent looking analog synth that will not break down as soon as you plug it in.

Luckily, companies like Korg are still working on different mini synth models that can deliver almost the same results as their bigger counterparts.

Korg Minilogue is one of them, and after trying it out, there are some things I think you should consider before getting it.

Feel, Specifications, Dimensions, and Integrations

Korg Minilogue is just like the name says - a mini synth. It combines both modern and old-school features, and the result is somewhat outstanding.

As far as the design goes, the manufacturer made sure that the whole interface has a nice flow. That makes it rather easy to use, so you would not have to reread the manual a hundred of times.

Although small and compact, it is a sturdy little synth you can easily bring anywhere with you. I found that you could pack it in anything, and carry it around without too much hassle.

I love the fact that this synth has a fantastic layout which you can access easily.

The design of the interface sets it apart from other mini synths - everything is legible, and there is enough space between the buttons and the knobs.

However, this makes the interface part a bit larger, in comparison to the keys area.

It is taller than others, and there is a bit of space left on it. Still, the point was to keep it minimalistic, and Korg succeeded in that.

The keys are probably the most problematic part of the design.

While they are soft to the touch and you do not have to jam your fingers in them, they are really slim. Perhaps too slim for men and women who have bigger hands.

You can easily touch one of the black keys if you are not too careful.

As far as the knobs and buttons go, almost all features in Korg Minilogue have designated controls.

That makes the workflow a lot simpler than it would be if you were using any other mini synth.

Advanced Features and Performance

It comes with four voices, which you can individually tweak and control. Not only did this give me more customization options, but it also sounded fantastic.

An essential part of any synth is that it sounds great, and Korg Minilogue excels at that.

Whatever I wanted - deep, thin, fat or any other type of a sound - I easily got it while switching and turning the controls.

It offered me a rather enjoyable experience while using it - and it did not sound too artificial.

It is a powerful synth that turns melodies into fantastic sounds in a flash, and it did not take me too long to get it to do what I wanted.

Pros & Cons of Minilogue

Benefits

You only need to make the smallest possible effort to create fantastic sounds

The price is not too steep, so even the very beginners can afford it

Has a more sophisticated sound that impressed me from the start

Drawbacks

If you are someone who has large hands, you will not like the slim keys

There are not many features - only the basic ones and a few surprises

The polyphony is limited, and you might get tired of it very fast

My Final Thoughts

Korg Minilogue might not have some features other mini synths have, but it still offers high-quality at a reasonable price.

I find it rather easy to use and there were no problems with the keys getting stuck or something malfunctioning.

However, if you want a more professional sound, and more options, you might need a bigger synthesizer than this one.
